Community Safety Village – Peace Tree Garden is located within Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area in Whitchurch-Stouffville. The Community Safety Village is an interactive, educational facility where children learn about fire, traffic and personal safety. Adjacent to this village Parklane donated materials and installed a garden that provides a venue for children to learn about edible and medicinal plants as well as the significance of the white pine in native culture as a tree of peace.
Parklane is proud to be part of the design and construction of the Carrot Common Green Roof above the Big Carrot. The space was design with education in mind, and can accommodate school groups, as well as showcasing the different styles of extensive and intensive green roofs. The focus was on native species as well as edible/medicinal choices. Part of the green roof will continue to be monitored by University of Guelph as a test plot for various new species of sedum.
Parklane is actively pursuing opportunities to be involved in the design and construction of outdoor classrooms. Curriculum options for these spaces can work with almost all subjects with an obvious focus on Science, Social studies, Environmental Studies, Native Studies, Religion and The Arts. Parklane has created outdoor learning spaces for All Saints School in Unionville, Ontario, St. Patrick’s School in Markham, Ontario, and Thorah Central Public School in Beaverton, Ontario. Also, in 2011 Parklane participated in the Community’s in Bloom program.
